General Distributions
Please note that the Debian Ubuntu and Fedora distributions now have their own pages here and there and over there. SupportPlease look here for a Statement on Support for these products. Arch LinuxSet of 2 CDs £5.00Arch Linux is a distribution for people who are not afraid of the command line. It is optimised for the i686 architecture. Its packaging system is based around the Pacman package manager. CentOS 5.0 DVDOne DVD-R £4.00CentOS (Community ENTerprise Operating System) exists to provide a free enterprise class computing platform to anyone who wishes to use it. CentOS 5 is built from publically- available open source SRPMS provided by a prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor. CentOS conforms fully with the upstream vendor's redistribution policies and aims to be 100% binary compatible. (CentOS mainly changes packages to remove upstream vendor branding and artwork.). CentOS is designed for people who need an enterprise class OS without the cost or support of the prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor. Neither the CentOS Project (those who build CentOS) nor any version of CentOS is affiliated with, produced by, or supported by the prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor. Neither does CentOS software contain the upstream vendor's product ... although it is built from the same open source SRPMS as the upstream enterprise products. CentOS-5 is a freely distributable OS built from the source at: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/5Server/en/os/SRPMS Before building the OS, non-free packages are altered. Non-free packages include those encumbered with a non-redistributable copyright or trademark. CentOS is ideal for people who want the capability of an Enterprise quality GNU/Linux operating system, who have the resources to support it, and who do not wish to pay support to the 'prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor'. More information is available at www.centos.org. Freespire 1.0.13 OSS EditionOne CD £2.00Freespire is a community-driven, Debian-based desktop Linux operating system that combines the best that free, open source software has to offer (community driven, freely distributed, open source code, etc.), but also provides users the choice of including proprietary codecs, drivers and applications as they see fit. GNU Hurd Snapshot K-9Set of 4 CDs £8.00This is a snapshot of the GNU/Hurd operating system. The Hurd is different to operating systems such as Linux or Open/Net/FreeBSD because much of the operating system is run as a series of server processes under the Mach microkernel. The Hurd is being developed by the Free Software Foundation as their official operating system kernel project. If you want to see the reasons for this, and why they didn't choose Linux, this link provides the answers. Since the Hurd is in active development, there is no stable version as such so we've made this snapshot available which allows you to test out the system, so it might still be a little rough around the edges in places, but should be generally ok. There is also an installation guide available. Gentoo 2006.1Set of 2 CDs £4.00Gentoo is a free operating system based on either Linux or FreeBSD that can be automatically optimised and customised for just about any application or need. Linux from Scratch 6.1.1 Live CDOne CD £2.00This CD carries a copy of the Linux from Scratch book and also the packages and patches required. This CD is not an installation or live CD like most other distributions. You can't boot from it and just install a full Linux distribution. The book (included in electronic form) is a guide to creating your own customised Linux distribution and all (or most, depending on your choice) of the required files are included on the CD. The CD is a live CD, and you can boot to it. Although it can be used as a rescue CD, its main purpose is to provide a convenient launchpad to build your own distribution. Earlier versions of Linux from Scratch relied on being run from an existing (non-LFS) GNU/Linux system, and sometimes this did not provide an ideal platform. Initially, building your own system from LFS is a lot more work than installing a conventional distribution, but it has a number of plus points:

Red Hat® LinuxRed Hat Linux as such no longer exists as a product line. The last version was released by Red Hat as version 9 (which was then used as the basis for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3). To answer the question: what is the successor of Red Hat Linus, there are two answers. If you are looking for cheap CDs, with no support, then the Fedora distribution on this page (still produced by Red Hat) is the thing to go for. Fedora Core 1 was a direct descendant of Red Hat Linux 9 and Fedora releases continue to occur approximately every six months with some test releases between them. If you need a fully tested and stable product on which to run commercial, enterprise type applications (i.e. your business depends on it) then our Red Hat page had details of the current range of Red Hat's Enterprise product line.
